5th gen d15z1/ 6th gen d16y8 head swap?

ok i jus blew out my motor in my 97 ex d16y8 and i've been parting it out and my brother has a 94 vx with the d15z1 which has the Vtec-E.. i noticed the intake and the trottle on mine was waay bigger than his and thought it would be a great upgrade if he swapped the intake mani onto his but he wants the whole head.. so could the d16y8 head swap onto his? the only prob i see that we could run into is that his engine is an obd1 and mine being an obd2.. his harness is already wired for vtec since he has vtec-e or could that be another problem? if he has to use the ecu for the d16y8 head isn't there an adapter u can get so it will all plug up using his wire harness? also what about the tranny i noticed mine has a higher rev than his, could that be swapped into his also for an upgrade? thanks for the info

Nick

Re: 5th gen d15z1/ 6th gen d16y8 head swap?

Bad idea to do this. With the pistons of the VX (dished) he will get a very low compression ratio, meaning his engine will be a LOT slower. From what I can see on some online compression calculators, it seems like his compression would be 7.7:1 (insanely low even for a forced induction application, let alone a NA one).

ohh thanks man.. so what about the intake manifold.. would it bolt up to his head? all the sensors look the same on the throttle body, it would be a sweet upgrade if it could and what about the tranny?

use your tranny i because it is shortest than his one and of course more accereration. and your ECU of course is better but can not pluge in 92:95 civic . but the p28 which design for the 92:95 civic is the same your ECU.
