2.4 cooling

my buddy recently bought a 96 ga se for very cheap, replaced head gasket and a couple other small things. the prob with the car in the first place was back pressure in the coolant bottle and no heat, he couldnt even keep the cover on it. a lot of dirt came out of the system. it has a new water pump and thermostat. now that everything is back together and running good the coolant is not circulating properly and theres a bubbling sucking sound. we think its air locked. can any body help with this problem? does anyone know how to un- airlock it?

Re: 2.4 cooling

If you have a radiator cap on the radiator run the car with the cap off until the level drops. It helps if the front of the car is pointed up hill. Once the thermostat opens the air should escape from the system. Refill the system and it should be ok. You may need to do this several times. Also there is a bleed screw on the thermostat housing that you can open and it will do the same thing. The cap is easier and faster.
