Touch Up Paint
I am trying to repair a couple of rock chips I got in my old Acura LS. I have looked at the paint pens offered at Pep Boys, but I have never used them before and I don't want to mess up the paint job, which despite the age of the car has actually been well kept. Is there a good way to repair these chips?? I am not comfortable ordering paint off of the internet, and the dealer that I bought the car from doesn't have the touch up paint for my color car. Any suggestions out there??

Re: Touch Up Paint
The paint pen is going to be your best bet. If you have one of the guys help you pick the right color it should be no problem and nothing will get messed up.
Good Luck

I tried the paint pens, spray systems, etc.... and couldn't really find anything that was fast and easy and yet looked good enough for my customers to be happy with and pay an extra $30 to $50.
Since your car is older, you may not want to pursue much more than a retail touch up paint, but if so, check out Dr Colorchip. Website is http://drcolorchip.com They sell to businesses/detailers mostly I think. The site doesn't say they sell paint to individuals, but they do. The paint will fix a ton of chips -- think road rash-- and it only takes about 20 minutes. They have some examples on the site. Stuff works great- worth a look, even if your car is old. |

I just wanted to come back and post a follow-up on my experience with Dr. ColorChip's Touch Up Paint Repair Kit. WOW!! What a great experience. I was apprehensive in buying anything over the internet, but this company delivers on what they promise. The repair kit arrived in a beautiful cherry wood box in 3 days as they had promised. There were simple instructions on the product and the color match was perfect. It took me less than 5 minutes to repair the chips on the hood of my car, and the chips "disappeared". They still are there, but you can't tell unless you knew they were there before. Some of the chips are completely restored to their original new paint look. As a bonus, they sent me a "micro-brush". This neat little brush was invaluable in touching up around the doors and the gas cap. I am sooo pleased, thank you very much Dr. ColorChip!! |
