intermittent overheat

I was driving down the high way this morning and my check gauges light came on. My temperature gauge was almost to the max. When I slowed the car down, the gauge went down as well. I am curious to know what the problem could be. I have had the head gaskets replaced within the last couple of years and the radiator completley flushed about a month ago. I have a 97 chevy cavalier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: intermittent overheat

Try your collant temp sensor first. When the guages went up and down was the motor hot??
