New Person Here

Hi how are you guys doing? Well I was thinking about getting a 1995 Eclipse GSX as my first car. Well my brother is 29 and he has a 1994 RX-7 Hence my username. Well, I love his car to death (rock on rotory's!) but I don't think a rx-7 will be all that practical for a first car becuase I live in colorado and it likes to snow ALOT and that is why I think a GSX will be better then a GST because of all wheel drive and I only want a turbo car. Ok well I was wondering what are some mods I first should do to the car? Exhaust is probably my idea becuase it will let the car breath better but I would need a Downpipe, Midpipe, Exhaust, Cat, RIGHT? Who is a good company for exhausts. Also I was wondering your opinion's on the front mount intercoolers I heard that it has a good chance of getting water inside your engine and then it will blow a piston or some shit like that. Is this true. My brother has one but his Rx-7 isn't a daily driver and that is why. Also I was thinking about getting some new headers on the car becuase every car the stock headers look like all rusted and stuff and I hate that but will the chrome ones get like that? Also if they do not get like that what are some good brands for them? I don't know if I already mentioned this or not but what do you think is some neccesariy "STUFF" to do to this car?

Welcome. http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/ is a good place to start when doing your mods.

Re: New Person Here

most morons here will tell you to do a serach blah blah blah.... usually the first upgrade would be the K&N filter... then the turbo back exhaust... if you want to pass emissions then... get a high flow cat.. if you don't care you can get a test pipe Or a midpipe whatever you want to call it.. 3" all the way through seems to be the norm on here... the bigger the better for a turbo car... then usually you upgrade the turbo and such..... but if you want a "chrome" exhaust manifold (headers for non turbo cars) then you can order them off line there usually calledl ike tubular exhaust manifolds... but those are usually special made for the turbo that you have... most of us just use the 2g exhaust manifold.... or evo manifold..... Usually when your doing the exhaust turbo manifold thing you would need to know what turbo... this i will say you need to search on mainly because i don't know that much... bigger turbo=bigger injectors= DSMLink or some kind of fuel management... some things you would want to do when you first by your car would be like change the wires and spark plugs.... gap them right.... make sure you know the last time belts were changed.. nothing like being surprised one day and saying fuck my timing belt just snapped.... thats no good for you lol and most likely for you your going to want snow tires... unless your a straight up baller like me.... and live in IL you just have the normal tires lol. some brands for MITSU/Eagle cars are Slow boy racing... RRE.... Turbochargers.com and im sure alot of other people can name some sites.... oh yah.. don't buy a car that has shitty suspension either lol CCCCYAAAA

Re: New Person Here

5. Intakes and Headers
Many people coming from the Honda world quickly start asking about which intakes and headers are available. This is because those mods have always been common in other import non-turbo applications. The intakes on turbocharged DSMs can be replaced, but aren't significant power-adders. Changing filters is very important though, and is recommended early on. The factory exhaust manifold is more than adequate though, with some porting work (except the 1G crack-prone manifolds, which should be replaced with a ported 2G manifold). Trust me, it's the rest of the exhaust that needs attention, not the manifold.

LOL oops! I guess stock will do fine for me. Also thank you everyone for the help. Yea I forgot all about the air filter. What about some aftermarket pully's? Do they work well with these types of car's or should I just keep stock? Also for a DSMlink is that really needed? What is it? Should I just do all the mods and then have it tuned because I don't really trust me on tuning.

Re: New Person Here

Welcome to Automotive Forums!

Yeah, a gsx would be very practical in the snow. No, you cannot get water into your engine with a front mount intercooler unless its maybe cracked somewhere or something. But then that would just be pointless. lol Also consider Eagle Talon TSi AWD's, they are way cheaper than a GSX and the same car basically. Only difference is front end and rear end appearance.

Because most morons like to empower new AF users to find their own answers when the information is readily available.

But I'm sure he preferred your dense block of unpunctuated text to the step-by-step guide provided on DSMtuners.com, or the myriad threads already on AF with beginning mod lists.

Enjoy AF, RX79394; the search button is your friend.

Which is exactly what people on here should tell new members to do, as a helpful reminder. I hope you don't have an issue with that, MexRocket. Your attitude isn't appreciated.

I know you should search for this but I'll entertain your curiousity out of boredom. Pulleys aren't really something you need to worry about. I mean you can change them out for a dressier appearence but the gains are minimal and I don't really think many people do them on the turbo cars. Also DSM link is advised for you to get if you plan on doing alot of work to your car. It is a computer program that allows you to pretty much completely control and tune all aspects of your car. It's much more comprehensive than a SAFC and much more reliable. It's one of the many advantages of owning a dsm because they have this great program.

Tuning is really trial and error and once you get a dsmlink program you can pretty much learn to tune your car on your own. That is what makes owning these cars so much fun. But in the same token you can have a shop to your car for a price.

First mods? Jack, stands, a metric wrench set and/or a good local mechanic.
