Red face Oil leak at filter adapter help...

Hi, I just found a oil leak at the oil filter adapter( 1996 chevy astro), taking a look at autozone guides, I found that at the connection adapter-block, inside is an o'ring...now the problem is that I cant find the part number or the replacement since I havn't removed it to measure the oring....any info??
Thanks!!!!

Re: Oil leak at filter adapter help...

I would first double check to make sure that is exactly where it is leaking from. These Astros were notorious for the oil cooler lines leaking. I just replaced the lines on my '96. Not a difficult job, but an absolute necessity to do if you don't want to seize the engine from running out of oil. I would just check it and make sure the oil is not leaking down the lines and dripping from the connection.

Re: Oil leak at filter adapter help...

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I am totally sure it is from the adapter...I got down and see it my self, really small drops of oil coming from the adapter connection, lines are ok, but it is a great tip, have no idea about, so now, if I find the oring or the entire part I will replace the lines for sure just in case...I care about my astro, it is a great van....

Re: Oil leak at filter adapter help...

You could just pull the bolt out and take the o-rings to your local NAPA or Autozone and get a couple replacements. The complete replacement lines are available from NAPA at a cost of about $83.00. My local NAPA didn't know they had them, but after giving them the part number off of their website they were able to get them. Good luck.
