replacing 4.3, need a suggestion

My 93 4.3 has 200,000 and a rod knocking, so got a new 4.3 to put in. Now I can't get the engine out because the oil pan hits the 4x4 front axle. I could fight the oil pan and get it off, but then how would I get the new engine in? It would be impossible to get the new gasket and pan back on.

Any suggestions?

You do not have to remove the oil pan to pull the motor out.
Did you disconnect the engine from the transmission?

You also might have to remove the motormounts. But not the pan.

If it's standard it's harder than automatic. Since you have to slide the motor forward off the shaft. (or so I'm told)

I would never cut the crossmember. Even if it's stronger after you get it welded the police or safety inspectors might pull it off the road just for that.
