First mods for 01 GA??
Hey what's up? I'm new here, (to the forums) and I'm a Ford guy...so I figured I'd come here for advice on this GM.
My wife has an 01 Grand Am, 2.4L 4 spd auto. She wants to know which mods would be best for the car, without breaking the bank just yet. As it sits now, all that is done is removal of the air silencer. What should be next? Thanks in advance.

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
Welcome to AF 01GA. I'd start with the CAI, it is a good investment that can be inexpensive. Other that that would be exhaust.
Thislink has some sites that can giv you some ideas on whats out there for your 2.4 GA. Good Hunting

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
First thing to do would definately be a Cold Air Intake, its cheap, you could probably get a decent one at around $50 if you looked hard enough. Next would be exhaust, which would cost you around $500 (big step up). After that there is: 62mm Throttle Body $200ish, PCM ($200ish), headers ($800ish), high flow cat ($300ish), Light weight pullies ($250ish). After that it starts getting really expensive. But the first mods to do would definately be the cold air intake, then the cat-back exhaust.

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
Rockfan, all the CAI setups I see are like $150. Where did you see one for 50ish? And, I'd like to completely remove all the baffling and stuff from the filter to the throttle body. Some of the intake kits look like they only extend to that first large baffle box. I'd just want straight tubing from filter to TB, if that's possible, so that the sound of the intake is heard. If not, I can make a nice setup myself.
Oh yeah, anyone do pcm tuning for these cars instead of just replacing the stock one with aftermarket? Like for my Ford I just ordered an XCal2 flash tuner from SCT. Does anyone make these for the N-bodies? Or even just a chip? Hey, my buddy has a Cavalier Z24 with a 2.4. Would some of those parts work? (manifolds, U/D pullies, FPR, etc) Geez, I sound like a newB! |

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
hey i dont know if you are looking for performane mods or visual mods but if your looking for visual mods you should get some headlight accents. i have them on my car and they are sweet especially at nighht.!!!!!!!!! they are also very cheap at only like 25 bucks at the most.

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
Well I was looking for performance parts, but visual is good too. First thing to do is wet sand the headlights and make them clear again. They have traces of cloudiness beginning to appear. So, you mean like blackouts? Or the "eyebrow" things?

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
Cool, thanks. A few of those places seem to carry mostly 3400 parts. This car has the 2.4 and it wasn't meant to be modified, originally. But of course, with me being into racing my car and everything, she wants hers to be fast too. So I promised her I'd look into what was available for her engine/car combo, and I'm now glad that I joined here. I see that there is a lot of posting in the Thunderbird forums, so I'll be over there some also if anyone cares.
Thanks for the links...I did see a replacement performance PCM in there somewhere, but no flash tuner as of yet.

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
Hey, quick question! I know that it may not be possible (being a 4 cylinder), but what's a good exhaust system or at least just a muffler that will make the car have a nice sound to it without too much interior resonance and without sounding like your average 4 cylinder ricer car? She wants exhaust work, but I'm afraid of making it sound like a ricemobile....
americanperformanceofcolorado.com appears to be a real estate or vacation site??? |

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=502706 And Cavalier 2.4 parts sometimes work for the Grand Am 2.4( Cia, exhaust, etc. etc)

Yes, the above link is great. I'm going to go look at dress-up stuff for a while. I think some gauge faces are in order.

Re: First mods for 01 GA??
no not blackouts and im not sure what i mean by eyebrow things but headlight accents are these LED lights that you put in your headlights that can make um blue or green or whatever color you want. my friend just got some one his car and there really cool especially at night.
