Angry 1994 V6 Ford Explorer Limited Edition Alternator Problem! Please Help!

I currently own a 1994 Ford Explorer Limited Edition and the Alternator went out on the Interstate when I was driving it. I managed to make it back to my Interstate Exit on the juice of the battery and it died right bescide a PEP BOYS close to where I stay. After it went I could smell like metal burning and I was scared that it burned something up, but when i looked under the hood I did not see any burned wires or anything but that smelting smell of metal or wires was there!

I was too ticked off to try and buy a new Alternator and decided to wait till the next morning and I walked home. The next morning I bought a Bosch 130 amp Alternator and installed it. I then got someone to jump me off, but the engine died again after about 3 minutes of running and the Alternator was not charging.

I managed to get 2 more jumps and made it to the PEP BOYS where I then bought a new battery because i figured my current one was fried and was not charging and messing up my Alternator. It died the minute I got into the Parkinglot.

I got a new Battery, put it in, and drove about 20 miles down the road. The Explorer has no power at all the Voltage Guage is not working, and the Battery Light was constantly on. I thought that maybe I had a bad Alternator and have tried 5 different ones with no avail and the same symptoms. E even swapped out the Alternator Wiring Plug with a new one thinking that the Plastic plug had gotten so hot that it melted and was not working right.

I still have the Battery Light on, the Alternator still is not charging the Battery, and the vehicle smokes like hell and runs way too rich and seems like the whole fuel control system is not running right because it is not getting the proper charge, but that is just a guess.

I am clueless now what to do and PEP BOYS has not got a clue either. In the mean time I am out of a ride and have been having to walk and my ride is still sitting at the PEP BOYS Parking Lot!

Please anyone if you have an idea, suggestion, or if this has ever happened to you I need help and do not know what to do from here and willing to try anything at this point and time. I am guessing maybe I got a problem with a ground wire, but i do not know where if that is my problem!

Thanks,

Check fuse# 16 in the Power Distribution Center under the hood on the R/H fender.

Why did you buy a $40K vehicle and not a $100 Factory Service Manual?

You may have burned up the fusible links at the starter relay?
Starter Relay: RH front of engine compartment, at fender apron --- C127,C128

To check the condition of the fusible links pull on link/wire and if it stretches like a rubber band it has melted inside.
FYI-if the fusible link wires are bad, they MUST be replaced with the same gauge wires as what was installed and you MUST use fusible link wire. If you don't do this, you may have an engine fire.
