Thumbs down 95 neon problems

Last week i went on a trip in my friends neon and after about 25-30 miles while going about 70 on the highway the car started to jerk furiously and it was really bad The tachometer was jumping from 0 to about 3K and the only thing that made it cease was giving it gas but as soon as you get off the gas it started doing it over again and when i pulled into a parking lot it turned off so i put it in park and started it up and it ran fine but when i put it in drive it started doing it again i havent worked on it since then but i'm gonna start working on it, And i want to know what you think the problem could be. My 1st thought was the fuel pump but i just had that replaced at the dealer but i have no idea what it could be

Did the check engine light come on and have you checked for codes? RPM's jumping around like you mentioned tell me it's your spark plugs that need to be changed. Put the stock champion spark plugs in there and see if that helps. If not it could be your spark plug wires and/or coil pack.
