1st Time post...help needed?

Hello everyone...

I just have a few quick question's if someone could help me out it would be wonderful and appreciated.

First the car in question is a 2001 Golf, gas, 2.0L engine (girlfriends car). It has about 60,000kms on it and is in great shape (bought used from a honda dealer).
The first problem that surfaced was the engine light coming on and not going off, also the car is idling funny, almost sputtering, off to the dealer we go and it turns out it is an oxygen sensor that is bad and fortunately it's still under warranty (by two days) and that is replaced.
Then the second oxygen sensor ( didn't know there were two!) decides to go and this one is not under warranty...wow they are an expensive item.
Then the first oxygen sensor goes again...because it was just replaced it was changed free of charge at the dealer.

The car now is also starting to idle funny again, sputtering almost, did this for two days and the engine light just came on again. Seems like sometimes you touch the gas, and it hesitates before registering that you're pressing the gas before going faster?

Could it be an oxygen sensor again? Could this be a bigger problem...we shouldn't be throwing o2 sensor's every six months should we?

Help?

Also, I had to actually take her car to a dealer to have the driver's side headlight changed when it burnt out...I couldn't figure out how to get it out...hell I couldn't even get "at" it!

Now, the passenger one is burnt out..I have a bulb...I can get at it, but don't have clue how to get it out...I don't really want to spend another $20 to get this switched for me...in my car (honda Civic) you just pop out the bulb and pop in the other one...what gives here? Is this a "make work" project for volkswagon mechanic's?

Thanks for any input!

Jason

Re: 1st Time post...help needed?

i see this happen all the time on 2.0.
Check the maf sensor, (is warranty up to 7yr 70k miles) if it doesnt have a white label on it than it should be replaced with newer updated version

also get a can of good intake system cleaner and injector cleaner (seafoam or b&g) put a can in the gas tank when you fill up.
also would suggest cleaning the intake and throttle body

Re: 1st Time post...help needed?

Hello JasonL:

It could be the MAF sensor since you changed the Bank 1 and Bank 2 (Front and Underbody) O2 sensor.

"The car now is also starting to idle funny again, sputtering almost, did this for two days and the engine light just came on again. Seems like sometimes you touch the gas, and it hesitates before registering that you're pressing the gas before going faster?"

Open the hood with the engine on. Spray water to the engine (Driver side). If you see spark, means the cylinder was misfired. Need to change the spark plugs and wires.

Hope it helps : )
