Question 4.0 mpg

i have a 1990 xj 4.0 4x4 auto. i was wondering if my 14-15 mpg on the streets was normal. but on the highway, i get like 24 mpg! is that normal?

Re: 4.0 mpg

My 95 4.0 with 5 speed stick averages 23 mpg. I have never tried to break the numbers down for street vs highway mileage. I can get 24 average if I drive it gently. Of course, letting it warm up on cold mornings before driving will lower the average mpg just as sitting in traffic going nowhere will. I keep the tires aired up which helps a lot.

Re: 4.0 mpg

well your 95 gets good mileage. i guess mine is so bad cause 90% of my driving is stop and go. but that lifted 89 makes me feel like mine is normal.
