I have a 95 Civic LX with 190000km. A while ago, the engine developed a hesitation while accelerating where it would seem like the ignition was just cut. Lifting the accelerator would bring the engine back to life. Hot or cold, didn't seem to matter, but at high revs, it never happens. I can hold it right up to 150 plus and it just keeps pullin'.
Only at low revs, ESPECIALLY when leaving a stop, is when it happens. The problem has gotten so bad now that it's hard to start, and if I just sit in neutral and slam the accelerator, I can stall it at will. I don't even drive the car now because it's so bad and I've been stranded once already. I've had a mechanic friend with access to a scope check some of the sensors. He said the CPS was bad, so I replaced it. No change. I replaced the ignitor, no change. MAP sensor checks out okay with the scope. Injectors continue to pulse even when the engine is dying (checked while purposely stalling in neutral). Replaced fuel filter, no change. Distributor cap looks okay. The are two things I'm considering testing or replacing: the coil and the injector relay. Does anyone have any other ideas or comments on these next two 'experiments'? Much thanks in advance.... K |

the coil is where i would look first. make sure that it is putting out enough voltage to make the plugs fire every time. also make sure you are getting enough fuel pressure. also make sure your injectors are flowing enough fuel. if you have never had your injectors cleaned, now would be a good time. good luck.

Mine hesitated for awhile, then i changed out the plugs for Bosch Platinum 4's and now it runs like a champ! Try new plugs and wires.

Fuel pressure has been checked. Coil is the next thing I will try, a friend has one that I can swap just to test....
I'm steering away from injector clogging simply because the car pulls well at high speed and the hesitation is so distinct that it feels like someone has cut ignition power abruptly. The coil is that last thing to check here (other than plugs and wires and computer). Next step will be injector relay if this doesn't work... Thanks for the replies.... K |

I have had the same hesitating problem. My mechanic/friend replaced my distrubtor and that fixed the problem. He went through several diagnostic checks and finally changed it out. It cost about $280 for the part.
I hope this helps you out. Peace |
