steering column loose!

1988 escort steering column is loose. the steering has a tilt wheel. it moves back and forth about 1 inch. how do i tighten up the steering wheel where it attaches to the steering column. thanks edsel...

ok any idea where i can get a diagram as to how the steering column goes together? i have a chilton manual but it appears that the only thing holding the steering together is the signal switch. i would like to find out how many screws hold it all together. need to see if one has come out causing the looseness. again thanks, edsel...
