exhaust system upgrade?
Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy a PT cruiser within the next few months and while I am not going to go crazy with it I am going to upgrade the exhaust and add a cold air intake to it. I was wondering if anyone has put on one of these kits and how they liked/disliked it? http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/pr...oducts_id=3823 Also if anyone knows of a cold air intake kit to add to the PT as well I'm open to ideas and suggestions, PS if anyone knows of a better exhaust system for around 1000-600 or less please let me know as I cant seem to find any that go from the headers back!? Thanks, Joe

Re: exhaust system upgrade?
From what I have been able to determine, the Mopar cat-back is the best value (price and quality). There is a system called "turbo-back" that MAY fit the PT (you need to verify w/ the seller) which you can find at Exhaust Depot.
As for the air filter, I am beginning to believe from what I have read that the best way to do this is to modify the existing air filter box to remove certain silencers or other things in the airflow path and use a drop-in K&N filter. This allegedly gives great airflow while preventing the most hot air into the intake.

Re: exhaust system upgrade?
If you are getting at PT, I would recommend getting the turbo!
Then, for the intake, get the VAK system from Adam at Prototypepower.com, tell him Natasha sent you and he'll take good care of you. Then, for exhaust, that is more of a personal choice due to sound quality. Any exhaust upgrade will improve performance, but some systems are louder than others. Mopar's exhaust is basically a Borla system, and fairly loud. I've heard the same about the Flowmaster exhaust. If you want quieter, try the BTG system from PT Tuning. They have a complete turbo-back system that is not cheap, but very good quality, great, deep sound, not too loud, and does give you a performance increase, especially at the high end. You can do the same thing for a non-turbo, but you won't see the performance gains. Really, there is no comparison between the turbo and non-turbo, if you want performance, go with the turbo. If you are mainly into style, go with the non-turbo and use the money you save on other goodies for the car. Have fun with your new PT! |
