Remote Start Help?

hi i have a remote start for my 97 sedan chevy cav...The remote start is old but cant afford to get a new one...when i push the button for the car to start the lights blink in the front but the car doesnt start...i dont even hear it try to start...what could be the problem???

one of the saftey devices is keeping it from starting. usually its the hood switch.
