Any Advice please.................

Can you guys help me with this decission:

First, the facts:
I have to have the 99 front bumper conversion, don't care about the buble lights, so thats - $800.00 off the bat.
94-99 6spds set at 12psi. The DOHC 6G72 is an extremely strong engine, capable of delivering well over 500 HP. (That's good to know, it will take me a while before I need to rebuild the internals.)
94-95 had hybrid OBDI/OBDII, 96+ had OBDII.

Now, please vote for an option: $12,000-$13,000 Budgjet.
Option 1: I buy a 94-95 Vr-4, OBDI/OBDII, which will save me about $1000-2000.00, but will probably put me in the 90K+ , but saw one with like 70K
Option 2: I buy a 96-98 Vr-4, OBDII, which will leave me NO extra CA$H., or need an aditional $500-1500 but might leave me @ 70-90K miles
Option 3: A 99 Vr-4, which will cost an EXTRA $4000.00 or more, 40-70K (out of the question, WARNING: car Note).
Option 4: buy a 94-98 Vr-4 with +100K miles, which will save me about $2000-4000.00, (thought most 100K+ cars are the same as $70-90K cars, maybe with a small saving of $500-1000 hardly seems worth it if you ask me)

I also really think it would be better to get an OBDII car as that whole Dyno thing might be a pain in the ass if it's AWD, I'm guessing you've got to go to a special place?????? but the 94-95 are about 3-4K cheaper, and I can use the money left over to do some mods, like a major tune up, 99 conversion (must have), boost controller, and what ever suggestions I get from y'all, instead of buying a 96-98 and then havin less than $2000 to go look for cash to do these things.......Any advice will be greatly appreciated, vote and feedback please.

My Vote is for option 2: Less miles, if I look hard enough, I save $2000, though $300 will be spent on travell fees, but I'll have a newer model, less miles, and OBDII. I then can get the 99 Bumper, and maybe squeeze in a minor tune-up, and then Start from there.

Dont know what to tell you there son other than your idea of 300.00 for travel is low unless you are driving to pick it up. My ticket was 340.00 then another 46 in gas (1 tank) and I had the cruise control and highway for a nice 430+miles.

I think it is something you need to figure out. Everyone will have different opinions. I peronsally would have preferred to get a hybrid or OBDI ecu for their knock-logging ability. Some like the looks of the 99 better, some like the first gen's looks better. Obviously most of us with one of these cars has made up their decision on how to spend their money. I think it really comes down to you, YOU have to decide what YOU want. The only advice I can leave you with is save some money on the side because these can become quite expensive cars to own.

OBDI? OBDII? Hybrid? what exactly is that and whats the difference? from whats been said im guessing its the ECU model?

you should buy the car first and drive it around cause it's already fun as hell to drive stock. Plus once you buy the car you have to do tax title license which cost alot. You will be fine with the stock for the time being. Were do you live? OBDI, OBDII, and the hybrid ECU are the different ecus that were available in our cars over hte years. 91-93 had OBDII, 94 and 95 had a hybrid, and 96+ had OBDII.
OBDII are great in modern times, because any Autozone can plug in a scanner for free and read your engine codes and diagnose a Check Engine Light. All modern cars have OBDII now and it is the standard.

However, 91-93 OBDI cars, you could buy a cheap datalogger and actually monitor the knock on your car. Knock is predetonation..it causes damage. Basically it is a great thing to be able to monitor when/if you are tuning. If you plan on heavily modifying your car it is AWESOME to be able to monitor that, if you are only basically modifying your car, it is still isn't a bad idea to keep your eye on knock.
Even now, you can monitor knock on the hybrid ecus, but you still can't on the OBDIIs. You have to watch timing and wideband o2 readings and it is alot more of an educated estimating game. I personally put alot of value on the earlier models ability to monitor knock. To the point that I may even swap in a hybrid ECU in the future. Anyway, the point was, that it really depends on what you value, as each of us has different goals and therefore places value on different pros/cons of each year.

Wow, thanks for the Info Igo, my plans are to get about 500-600HP out of the Vr-4, but for now, I'm still waiting on the damn title to be sent so that I can sell the SL.

Azn, how many miles does your VR-4 have, and how much have you abused it???? and don't say you drive it below the speed limit, I think it is safe to say anyone in here has pushed the limits of their cars to some level............ and do you have any pics?????? I'd be interested in buying it if it's in good condition, but this will be probably towards the end of Feb, if all goes well.

I'm in GA, I don't have a problem driving to pick up the car or meeting 1/2 way.
