ahh can't shift

on my way to school today i was getting off a highway and i was stuck behind 7 cars when all the sudden my car stalled and i lost all feeling in the clutch. i started it in first and was not able to shift into second or neutral. everytime i started the car in first it would stall if i didn't start driving it within 5 seconds, so i drove the car in first down the street to a parking lot. if i start the car in neutral it won't stall but won't go into gear.

i checked the clutch fluid and it was fine, and prior to this i didn't have any issues with the clutch. if the clutch was killed i would have probably smelled it burning so i'm not too sure whats wrong.

any ideas what it could be? its a '92 toyota tercel

Re: ahh can't shift

i would guess the master cylinder for the clutch is shot. they can have the seals go bad and cause no loss of fluid, but you would lose most of the pedal resistance. if the slave cylinder goes, you usually lose fluid.
