2002 Caravan Auto Lock Programming

I recently purchased this van and it didn't come with a manual. I cannot figure out how to program it so the locks stop locking when I take off. It's a real pain getting my baby out of the back cus I always forget to unlock it after putting it in park and I read somewhere that you can change this. I also read you can switch the keyless remote so all the doors unlock on the first hit, not the second. My back heat control doesn't work either. It's like it only works from the front controls. I can switch the heat up and down and the fan up and down and it doesn't do anything. It's like it's pointless or something or busted. Everything has to be controlled from the front. Can anyone help me on these issues?

I also noticed on my factory cd player it shows disk up - disk down. What's this mean? I assume it's for a multi disk player but mine isn't. Do they all come like this in case one is installed? Thanks! I really like it so far! It's a dream compared to our blue paint chipped 92 Caravan! Ole Blue!

One other problem, when I turn the steering wheel back and forth when in park, it sometimes makes a clunking sound up front and when I hit bumps it makes a loud clunk. Not all the time but it's annoying. It has 53,000 miles on it.

Re: 2002 Caravan Auto Lock Programming

Auto-Locking should not be disabled for your safety in case somebody wants to get into your car to harm you or your child. It can be disabled by the dealership using the DRB III (they might not even charge you, it can be found under customer preference or something like that in case they don't know) or you can search the forum though nothing else did work for me.

With regard to the remote control, not sure how it is wired but you could ask a local alarm/stereo installer to look at it (again with some luck no charge) and they might be able to fix it for you. If you install a cheap alarm, you can further customize the lock/unlock features as well as add remote start for those cold mornings (it does not void any warranty).
I could not find any information regarding the programming of the unlock function but then again I have an older car and it might be a new feature (you should ask a dealership).

Now to the climate controls, is the switch in the front set for rear control (the older models only allow rear controls while the driver keeps it in "rear" mode, I am not sure how this is handled in newer cars).
You are not specific about what kind of problem you have, if you have digital controls, do they light up in the back or does it seem like there is a connection problem ? Did you check EACH fuse ?? Again, a nice dealership will look at it for free (courtesy inspection or ~$50 electronic diagnostic fee if you are out of luck), meaning they can run a diagnostic check and scan for diagnostic trouble codes. Since they would need the DRB for both the Auto-Lock and this scan they should not charge you twice.

Now the CD player, yes, you are correct, the controls are for an optional CD changer that is available.

The noise could be a suspension problem (bushings, bearings, linkage..etc)...These kind of problems are quite common and can be a pain. Not sure where you are located but here we have a wonderful Pep Boys that does superb work for a fraction of the cost you'd pay at a dealership but that might not be the case everywhere. Pep Boys and dealerships do provide some sort of additional inspection services if you let them change the oil for example which is cheap maintenance especially if you just bought the car, hope this helps...

You should get a manual , you can get them for like $20 at the chrysler site . The things you want to do is in the manual its a little lengthy to print it all here but suffice it to say it can be done because i did the same on our 2004 without a trip to the dealer . The rear heat controls will only work if the front heat control for the rear heat is in the "rear heat (knob turned all the way left) " position then the rear heat controls should work, all this also in the manual.

Re: 2002 Caravan Auto Lock Programming

The Automatic Door Locks can be disabled as follows:

1. Close all doors and place the key in the ignition.

2. Cycle the ignition switch ON/OFF four times ending in the OFF position. (Do NOT start the engine).

3. Within 10 seconds of the final cycle, press the interior driver's door lock switch to the LOCK position.

4. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

You can turn the feature back on by repeating the above procedure.

The Remote Unlock Driver's Door 1st feature can be enabled or disabled by performing the following procedure:

1. Press the UNLOCK button for 5 to 10 seconds.

2. While the UNLOCK button is pressed, (after 5 seconds) press the LOCK button. Release both buttons.

C.B.

Re: 2002 Caravan Auto Lock Programming

Thanks. I got a hold of someone's 1996 book and the directions were the same for the auto lock. Glad to get that taken care off. Total pain in the butt!
