Over charging issue with alternator

Just wanted to post what I found with my over charging issue. You may see a couple of the original posts about dash lights staying on the all I could find under the hood was that the battery cap had come off..........

Anyway, of course the first thing I did was just replace the battery and after doing that I started it and checked the alternator output. It was 19.6 volts. So last night I put my new alternator on that my dad rebuilt for me. He said the regulator had failed which caused the alternator to be fully fielded. Basically it was allowed to throw as much as it could to the battery.

Well, got everything put back on last night and started it up. All lights on the dash went out and alternator was charging great. The lights that stayed in, which indicated this problem were, Anti-Lock Brake, Trac off, PCS, Service Vehicle Soon.

Just thought this might help in diagnosing someone elses problem when these lights stay on.

Re: Over charging issue with alternator

Glad you got it fixed.

Your 19.6Volts from the alternator was at idle also, if you gave it a rev the voltage would have gone up. No wonder why the battery blew.

These Intrigues are starting to get old, which means the problems will be getting more freaky. Most Intrigues now are only worth 2K-7K$ and at that price I think they are a steal.
