anyone mechanically inclined, PLEASE HELP!

I have already asked this question, but no one seems to know. I have a 2000 Z24 with a spun bearing, so I need to replace the engine. My friend has a 98 Z24 that is wrote off, so he said that I can have his 2.4 "quad 4" that is in his car. his motor says "quad 4" on the top of it, and my motor just says "2.4" on it. They essentially look the same (engine mounts in same place), but I don't know if it will fit into my car AND work. Does anyone on here know if the 98 2.4 will fit into a 2000 with a 2.4?

Re: anyone mechanically inclined, PLEASE HELP!

the only cavalier that should ever say "Quad 4" is a 95, not a 1998. If the car is a 98, then the only difference is the EGR which your 2000 doesn't have. But it should work all the same.

He's quoting the Simpsons, in a conversation between Homer and Apu.

Re: anyone mechanically inclined, PLEASE HELP!

Someone prolly switched IDI covers on it. But yes you can swap everything out but you'll need everything EM wise, and you may have some troubles going from an OBD I to an OBD II emission controll depending on your state. You'll have an engine with OBD I on a car that should be OBD II. Here in NY they are VERY strict. 96 and newer cars have our balls in a vice especially with modifications.

Re: anyone mechanically inclined, PLEASE HELP!

i would fix the spun bearing and replace it with new parts you don't know how long the other engine will last i always say rebuild than replace if you rebuild you know its new and will last when you replace you may run in to more problems down the line and then spend more time and money

If you mean that the codes aren't OBD II for the 2.3 Quad 4. They are. Got the same engine, and for some good reason Gm started early in 95 If this isn't what you meant, don't yell at me please. Guess I'm just a tard
