i want to turbo stock d16z6 engine?

ok i have a d16z6 and i want to turbo it the only thing i have is a intake,so far ive bought a boost gauge from autometer what do i need to do to my engine to turbo it? like can you turbo a stock engine and keep it from blowing up and still have a fast car,or do you need to like "build the motor"should i get some bolt ons do i have to get uppgraded fuel and spark?i do have a vafc 1,but i havent installed it because i dont have anywhere to dyno it yet or have anyone too tune it...i see kits on ebay for a "d-series turbo" for about 1200-1600 it was from turboinix? somethin like that well someone gimmy a heads up thanx~

Re: i want to turbo stock d16z6 engine?

Make sure your engine is healthy. If you want a lot of power, you'll need to rebuild. If you want more reliability, rebuild. You need some kind of engine managment (you could use the vafc, but there are far better ones out there) as well as upgrading your fuel delivery system. You will NEED a professional to tune your car, if you want reliability as well as the most power for your setup. If there isn't anyone around you who can tune, then you need to bring your car somewhere that can (either trailer the car or run low boost and enough fuel to be on the rich side {and don't get on it}). You can't just put a kit on with everything else being stock (engine, ignition, fuel delivery) and just go, you'll blow your shit up quick. Most turbo kits on e-bay are garbage. They sell shitty turbos that will break and manifolds that will break apart at the welds. You really need to do a ton of research before you even attempt to do anything. I've seen a ton of people who had no clue what they are doing, throw a turbo kit on, raise the boost a ton, and blow their engines within a week (or even a few hours).

Re: i want to turbo stock d16z6 engine?

go to www.turbod16.com and they'll help you out a lot..if you have questions on anything, you can talk to me on here or on TD16..

I would build a kit if i were you because you're going to get it cheaper and you're going to get something that is better than a factory kit because tyou can build it to your needs rather than just getting the run-of-the-mill turbo kit. One good place to get parts is Honda-tech.....i bought a lot of my parts from that site! Any questions, just PM me on one of the three sites i mentioned under the same SN on all of them!

I have the exact motor and i boosted it with a t3/t4 garret.it can run 8psi but with my boost contoller i daily drive around 5. i kept the motor stock and haven't had any problems yet, but i had a good clean motor to start with. i'm using a vafcII and i didn't dyno it. i would suggest geting a boost controller so your not constantly running high psi. installing the vafc is a good idea too even if its not dyno spc.

Re: i want to turbo stock d16z6 engine?

i have a few friends w/ boosted D's on VAFC's, but personally, i would get it tuned on a dyno just for peace of mind. I had my GSR dyno tuned and i love not having to worry about it because the tuner does that for a living....he's not likely to mess up....however it is spendy....
