GEN light on dash and smoke

got home from work today and smoke starts coming up from under the hood, pop the hood white smoke. Hoping it is just a hose but thinking head gasket. Now I noticed a light right next to the seat belt light on the dash it says "GEN", what is that???

<edit> Nevermind I am a retard. I blew the belt. coolant boiled over and alternator not runnning.

Glad you figured it out. But anyways, "GEN" stands for generator. A throwback to the old days. Nowadays we call it an alternator.
