Oil filter leak
Hi, First post here. I am looking at at 90 lumina euro w/the 3.1 L engine. The owner told me the oil filter backs out and allows oil to leak from the area. He said he has to tighten it real good with a wrench but eventually backs out a little. Just wondering if this is common and is it fixable, how easy, etc

not for sure, but it could have a seal still on the block from the old filter. sometimes they are stuck and are left on. then when the new filter is tightened it is fine until it vibrates loose just a thought bob h. |

Re: Oil filter leak
The other possibility is the oil filter adaptor may be loose/leaking on the engine. There is a gasket between this adaptor and the block (fel-pro part #70672) that degrades and leaks. When you put a new oil filter on, it pulls against the stud, essentially tightening it up, until it relaxes after a few heating/cooling cycles and starts to leak again. The stud that the filter threads onto is starting to back out, and it's just a matter of time until it come out while driving and you lose all your oil.
