Check Engine light... shift solenoid?

Hey now..

My car failed inpsection.. I had the code P0753.. it is the "shift solenoid" failure.

There is no problem with my transmission I've noticed.. but still the code..

Anyone have this problem? And how did or do you fix it?

Expensive?

Re: Check Engine light... shift solenoid?

What year??

You could have A Bad Pcm Or Open Circuit Going To Your Trans. Your PCM could have a bad circuit going to the trans. shift sols. Try disconnecting the round connector going to the trans. on the front of the trans. I think it has six pins. The trans. has the male pins. You will probably have to use a mirror to see them make sure there all straight.

Have you checked your fuses??

Just throwing some ideas out. However, you should be experiencing something a little out of wack with your transmission at times for what I talked about above. good luck.

Oh yeah! Hear is a TSB for the 1999-2004 GAs that would apply to your situation:

#02-07-30-022B Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On with DTCs P0716 and/or P0717, P0730, P0753, P0758, P1860, P1887 or other Misc. Transmission Trouble Codes Set (Repair Wiring at Transaxle Wiring Pass-thru Connector) - (Oct 20, 2003)

Once again good luck. hope this helps

sorry about that..

it is a 1997 6cyl grand am..

The guy at the service station said he would just replace the tranny if he were me.

He's definitely not me.

well talk to a derlership that you trust or the like and ask him or her about some of the GENERAL things I mentioned (they still should half way apply to your car), and they would probably would check it out for a very low cost and probably find your problem! Good luck!

Re: Check Engine light... shift solenoid?

that damn wiring harness was an issue in my 93' GA 3.3 I used to hav years ago. THey jerry rigged(taped) the harness twice, the third time the trany was gone! Luckily it was under warrnty and the new trans was only the cost of my deductable.

If the disconnecting that harness Pontiac Ninja mentioned doesnt work, take it to a parts store that can run and clear those codes. Maybe it'll clear long enough to pass you emissions test.

Re: Check Engine light... shift solenoid?

Yea.. I have to do something.... I'll check the harness...

No way there's a new tranny going in my car. Not necessary I betcha..

I know there is a better answer.
