head lights
alright so i have been having alot of problems with my 99 taurus. but the one problem that i can not fix or even figure out is my head lights. i went to take my car out one night and i didn't have any headlights, so i waited till the next day. i cheacked all the connections they were all fine, then when i turd the switch on my running lights work but when i turn it again my headlights don't work. also my brigts don't work either. i check the contanuety of all the fuses and they are all fine none of them are blow does anyone know what could be the problem

Do you have current at the headlight connectors? If you do, either the bulbs are bad or you have a bad ground. If there is no current at the connector, either the switch is bad or there are blown fuses.

Last year I lost the headlights, parking lights, dash and tail lights on my '99 Taurus SE Wagon all of a sudden. The reverse lights, turn signals, and daytime running lights still worked though. All the fuses were fine, and there was no fault in the headlamp control switch.
I brought it in to the dealer; they found that a wiring harness hidden inside the left front fender had been chafing against something over time. One or more wires eventually had the insulation worn away, then shorted and broke. It was a big long job to get it fixed (not to mention expensive) as they had to take a lot of stuff out of the engine compartment to get at the wiring harness and fix it. After fixing the break, they wrapped the harness to protect it. It's been just fine since...

That's good info to know, I have the same car, may need it some day.. that's another reason these forums are great.

thanks alot guys i will check the current then if there if no current there will be nothin left to do i will have to bring it to the ford dealer thanks for your time
