Depends on what model Cobalt you have, if it's the SS/SC and you'd like to take a turn without setting your inside tire ablaze, then yeah, it's important.
If you have a stock LS it's the last thing you want to spend money on. They cost anywhere between 1500-3000 US...not including the install.

Well I don't have a cobalt yet. But i'm looking into getting one a new car around August and currently a Cobalt SS S/C is my first choice.

The biggest mistake I made when I bought my ss/sc was not waiting to get the G85 package that come with the LSD and the recaro racing seats. Personally though, I'd get the G85 package when you get an ss/sc, then swap out the recaros for the standard leather seats that come in the ss/sc. The recaros arent exactly the most comfy things ever. However, the lsd is awesome. Head to www.cobaltss.net for more info.
