98 ignition electrical not passlock

I have 90k and have had many a delayed departure or arrival thanks to the ingenious passlock system...however, after driving home today with theft light on....went back out to the car to run an errand about an hour later and no dash lights except for odometer and airbag....engine turns over but no fire....I checked a few fuses in the inside panel and bang!, the next try all lights came on with ignition key and the car started.....this is the good part...while still running I was replacing the fusebox cover (next to driver's door) and upon tapping it to lock in, the car shut down. Tried and tried to restart and had a theft light on along with the odometer and airbag only....left key in ignition for 15min. and theft light went out....Now, only odometer and airbag light....car turns over, but still no start and no other dash lights.????? Could it be the ignition key tumbler or still a passlock issue?........I hate this car.

Re: 98 ignition electrical not passlock

I would say you have a bad connection at the fuse panel, I would check the connections on the back side.

Re: 98 ignition electrical not passlock

Being that the initial problem occured at night, I finally got daylight time to look at the situation. I had a look at the fuses under the hood that night, but did not use a voltmeter at the time. I took a voltmeter to the fuses under the hood and BINGO, found the 30A ingnition fuse was "barely" blown...the break was so slight that a minor push on one of the fuse leads would make continuity on the meter..it was difficult to even see the break..maybe this is why I had a brief moment of power???....

So far, everything is back to normal....this is a great forum and thanks for your help and suggestions "slls".

still hate this car.......
