What motor?

ok, so i am going to later switch my 305 with a 350, and i was looking at the lt1 but i have been reading up and it looks like way to much work with tranny and fuel and all of that so i think i am just going to find a 350 tpi and totaly rebuild it, new heads and all the good stuf, what do you guys think? and how much hp can you get out of a 350 tpi with out a turbo or now or a supercharger? i plan on just like cam heads better internals but it still has to pass emisions. So how much do you think i can punch out of it?

Just Do It If You Got The Money Do The Lt1 Swap. Im Thinking Of Doing It To Just Unsure, Be Cause I Only Have 50,000 Miles On My Car,and The Only Motor I Can Find Around Were I Live Has 54000miles On It.

i don't have the money tho, i am a broke student, lol. So i am saving up and doing little stuff to my car like cam headers, exhaust..ect.. And when i get all the money i think i will get a 350 tpi and build a bad ass one, but still have to pass emisions. Does any one know how much i can get out of my motor when i sell it? it is a 305 tbi and by then i will have lt1 cam port polished heads, headers, msd ignition, and probly 454 tbi. I now have 120,000 so i do not know how manny miles will be on it then.

i think you should just work with what you have, then, once you can afford it, look into a swap.

ya that is what i am going to do, do some stuff with the one i got then when i get the money i am going to do the 350 tpi swap, because the lt1 is to much work and i don't want to mess with the tranny. How much does a rebuildable 350 tpi go for? about $700? if i am lucky?

you do know that by switching from tbi to tpi you will still have to upgrade the fuel system, get a new ecm, eliminate the speed buffer, and some other things that i can't think of cuz i'm tired... you can get a used 350 (not tpi) for dirt ass cheap, rebuild it, and just throw a better tbi set up on it... since you didn't want to mess with the fuel system and stuff...

I hate to keep mentioning thirdgen.org but there is a guy selling the whole top of his motor which includes lt1 heads, modified lt1 intake(modified to use a ditributor), the fuel lines needed to convert from tpi to lt1, and the trans brackets and everything else needed for the swap. All you would need then is an lt1 short block. I think hes selling it for about 500 dollars which is a freakin awsome deal for all that stuff. But like mentioned before you would have to revamp your entire fuel system.

I thought all the motors (86 -89?)even 2.8's used the 165 ECM, just a different prom and some other reference files that would have to be redone?

no unfortunately a tbi and tpi ecm is different, the proms are not interchangable... if you ever get a chance to see, the tbi and tpi proms are dramatically different... tpi and 2.8 might have had the same ones since they both used port injection... but i do know that tbi and tpi pcms are different...

i don't minde messing with the fuel stuff, it is i just don't want to swap the tranny. So what do you think i should put it in? a 350 tbi? or a 350 tpi? And will i still be able to get soem hp out of the tbi 350? because that is why i am switing to the 350 because it is hard to get power out of my 305 tbi.

with that lt1 motor i mentioned you can use the tpi ecm. You will just have to tune it for it to run right.

ya but i don't want to mess with switching the tranny, i wish they made a convertion plate or someting that would make it fit. So i will just keep looking and how much hp can you get out if a 350tbi with out now or supercharger? and it still be able to pass emissions?
