Big brake kits are really only good for decreasing the opperating temp of the brake system.... Meaning they are pretty much worthless unless you are overheating the brakes, not to mention that they don't decrease stopping distances. (in some cases they can actually increase stopping distances). Personally, I'd be looking to get a quality Blank rotor like Brembo, tied in with a quality High temp Street brake pad such as Hawk HPS or HP+, and For added safety I would be a good idea to run a High temp brake fluid (ATE super blue or Type 200 would work great). Now if you want to shorten your 60-0 Distances, get stickier tires.... To quote the guys from Stop Tech (makers of BBK and other brake parts) Quote:
But then again, if you like the look of them..... Stoptech makes a nice set other wise theres allways Willwood. Later!

Re: 94 accord big brake upgrade kit
StopTech, Wilwood or FastBrakes is the only way to go. Rotora and Brembo are good too, but very pricey. Almost all other kits out there are mostly for show, especially the AEM kits. And when you upgrade, DON'T get drilled rotors, common misconception about that and a great argument thread on here why they are useless. Blank or slotted is the only smart way to go. Also tiresplay a BIG factor in braking, and the only real way on our cars to decrease stopping distances.
When it comes to brakes it's like this.... If they fade you don't have enough pad, if they lock you don't have enough tire. Kinda a vague general rule to follow.

Re: 94 accord big brake upgrade kit
would it make sense to add a big brake kit for the rear? i was talking to a rep at precision braking whch use wilwood calipers, he said i can get one custom made for the rear with 13" rotors for like $1500 and the front would be around $1200

Re: 94 accord big brake upgrade kit
If you are dead set on getting a big brake kit, Talk to the guys from Stoptech, they are one of the few companys that actually do real world testing to make sure their BBK's dont distrupt the brake balance of the car.
http://www.stoptech.com/ other wise, a quality stock sized rotor, with the correct street pad will give you plenty of stoping power. with out the cost of a BBK. |
