2001 LS low idle

The car started to die occasionally for no reason (70 k miles). I kept adjusting the idle higher, and sometimes it would run just fine for weeks at a time. Finally the garage convinced me to install a new MAP sensor ($200). Since then the problem has changed: now the idle will drop down to 500 or so and then go up to 1500 and then drop again. It will keep doing this even when in gear. Makes for very wierd driving! Feels like a cruise control gone nuts. Garage says it won't do it when they test drive it.

Any suggestions?

try turnin the Base Idle Set Screw down

hold on i just seen something, do you mean MAS/MAF and not MAP, 1.5s are MAP(pressure) 1.8s are MAS/MAF(flow)

It is a 1.8 L and the mech definitely told me it was a MAP.
