Programming Keyless Entry Problems

I have a 2000 Trooper and I bought a Keyless Entry FOB off ebay. I found on this forum the programming instructions and tried them but it didn't work for me. I was wondering if anyone else tried this and if they had any success. If so I would really appreciate some hints/tips as to what I'm doing wrong. I would hate to pay the dealer $96 for one hour of work to program this if it's really this easy. The instructions I followed are as follows:

1. Get in car and make sure all doors are unlocked.
2. Open driver's door and leave open.
3. Put key in ignition.
4. Turn key to 'on position' (dash lights on, but do not start) and back to 'off position' 3 times in 5 seconds or less. (you must turn the key very fast)
5. Close and open driver's door 2 times in 5 seconds or less.
6. Turn key to 'on position' and back to 'off position' 5 times in 5 seconds or less. (turn key very fast)
7. Close and open driver's door the doors should lock and unlock twice after this happens push the lock or unlock button on the remote, doors will lock and unlock. Push the lock or unlock button a second time and doors will lock and unlock again. You are finished!

I'd appreciate any help.
Angelo

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

These are the correct instructions for the 98-02 Trooper. Not all Trooper models were equipped with Keyless Entry when new, so you may want to call a local Isuzu dealership's parts department with your VIN number to verify:

Instructions for programming

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

Chris ~

I did check with my dealer and gave my VIN and they say that my Trooper does have a keyless entry. I got the same remote as the one on that site you mentioned and tried those programming instructions over and over but my truck doesn't seem to respond. When I get through all the instructions it's supposed to unlock and lock twice, but doesn't. Any tips on doing so?

Appreciate it,
Angelo

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

If your not getting the vehicle to respond at all, you may have missing equipment or disconnected wiring.

Some used cars may have had an aftermarket system installed at some point, and some lazy installers just disconnect the factory equipment and leave the wires laying there.

If you can't check the receiver yourself, you may want to run the vehicle to your local dealer to have them check and test the receiver.

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

These instruction worked on my 99 Trooper. On step 7 make sure when you close and open the door the final time you leave the door open. That was the one step i keep screwing up.

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

I found it easier to opperate the door switch by hand rather than acctually opening the door, because you can do it faster.

Re: Programming Keyless Entry Problems

Same here, just use your hand to move the door switch back and forth, much easier.

BTW, anybody know how to defeat the horn, I hate the toot toot sound it makes!

Mines a 99, beeps once for lock, twice for unlock. Annoying sound too, like a little golf cart horn!
