A quick question

Ive been doing tonnes of reading on this forum but there is one thing i dont understand. Is the amplifier only supposed to be connected to the sub and HU or do you connect all the speakers to it as well. Also how would you do this and what type of wiring would you use?
And also, what is the difference between a mono amp and a 2/4 channel amp? Which one is best?

Thanks in advance

Re: A quick question

mono = 1 channel/ or no stereo
2 channel= 2 outputs
4 channel= 4 outputs

you can run speakers off an amp, same with a subwoofer. but generally not the same amp

the connection to an amp are usually Power from the battery, remote turn on from the HU, RCA's from the HU, Ground from the amp, then speaker wire to how even many speakers you are using.

Re: A quick question

Keep in mind the power handling of the subs u r using in comparison to the power handling of the amp. Typically dont run more than 50 watts to factory speakers.

Re: A quick question

Thanks Harrymay and wojtas for that info, just a couple of other things. mono is only 1 channel so does that mean its the worst? when would u use that? also, do u have to connect all the speakers to a separate amp? will the sound quality be better if u do?

Thanks again

Re: A quick question

Mono amps are designed primarily for subs only and push out alot more power than 2 or more channels to power the bigger subs. For connecting the normal speakers whether it be 2 4 or in some cars 6 then you would use a multi-channel amp to provide the sound to however many speakers you have. If you have 4 speakers in your car then get a 4 channel amp or 2 2 channel amps depending on the ability and way you want everything run. If you run the internal speakers off an amp instead of off your head unit then they will naturally sound better as most head units don't provide the speakers with the power they need to provide the best sound. When connecting amps to speakers and subs like wojtas said just be very careful with the power rating for your speakers and the available power of your amp.

Re: A quick question

Wow. Thanks dave92cherokee for that post. I learned a lot from it. Just one more thing. Is it possible to connect a sub and all the speakers to just 1 amp? If so will the speakers sound better then if its coming straight from the HU?

Thanks once agian. you guys are really helping me with this.

Re: A quick question

It is possible to connect the 4 speakers and sub to 1 amp but it would have to be a 5 channel amp and it would make the 4 speakers sound better but for most subs it would not provide the power required to really push it to get the thump that most people want when installing a sub.

Re: A quick question

aftermarket speakers always sound better with a good amp powering them. If you buy a one channel (class D) amp for the bass speaker, be sure to match your impedance(ohms) ...... the mono bass amps don't put out that much power into 4 ohms.
