Need power....dont have much cash
i have an 85 monte carlo ss with the 305 h.o. blown tranny (but thats another issue) i was wondering , once i get teh tranny squared away whats teh easiest way to get more power without spending a fortune...keep in mind this engine has 125,000 on it so i dont really care if it goes this summer because it tired anyway...i was wondering what are some tricks of the trade to get me some "go-fast" on a budget

Re: Need power....dont have much cash
I dont think 125000 miles is really that much. How about some dual exhaust. It will be faster and its gonna sound really good! What about that Turbonator thing that you put in your air cleaner. They claim u can get 35 more horses out of it.

Re: Need power....dont have much cash
tires make a difference, a smaller tire will give you more of the line power

Re: Need power....dont have much cash
Lower rearend gears are always good. High flow air cleaner would be good with headers and dual exhaust that these guys mentioned.

Re: Need power....dont have much cash
start with the airflow; headers, intake, true dual exhaust or punch out the cat, better air filter. dont lower your rear gearing or get smaller tires, it's already 3.73, unless gas mileage is not an issue. depending on if you have to pass the smog test you could always ditch that stuff too. the guys on the monte board (www.montecarloss.com) will probably tell you to get a 350 due to the price/hp for a 305.
