grinding noise

i have a 1996 honda civic lx 4 dr
its a 5 spd manual

but anyways its makes this grinding noise under the hood and i dont know what it can come from. everytime i start up the car it will make that sound without even moving. then when i drive it will make that sound like i will shift gear...sound will come up again...then i shift....etc...is it bad? i dont know ..help?

is it only when the clutch is pressed? what about if you push the clutch in while idling without shifting? does it do it at any time the clutch is not pressed?
