www.dsmtuner.com & www.roadraceengineering.com have upgrade paths.
For $1500 it is possable to get their from a stock 2g. But you will have to pinch alot of pennys..

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

I'd just let your car breathe a bit better, downpipe, cat-back (no cat if possible), intake, filter, and then buy dsmllink

IMO, its not possible with 1500 unless you buy completely used / shady parts

don't worry about upgrading the manifold, the stock manifold has seen tens

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

My opinion would be to buy as much used stuff as you possibly can, with the $1500 you have right now. My entire car has been upgraded exclusively through 70% used goods that I purchased off E-Bay. Even the 6-bolt block was being auctioned by SBR on E-Bay. The dough I have saved has been amazing. BUT, you must be a seasoned buyer. Know a scam when you see one, and understand the value of feedback rating and buyer/seller communication. I have over 90 transactions on E-Bay with a +80 score and zero negatives, and I have purchased over $10,000 worth of goods (mostly used) over the past 5 years. Never been scammed even once, knock on wood. E-Bay is a market place just like any other, with it's own set of rules and limitations. Make those work to your advantage, and you can win big and save lots.

The first thing I would get, is a K&N FIPK (the oval filter), and some hard intake piping (cheap E-Bay pipes will do...a pipe is a pipe). You can pick up a used UICP with a good aftermarket BOV already on there for around $120-$160 on E-Bay (cheaper still, a 1G BOV). A good muffler shop can make a you good non-branded turboback exhaust system for around $400-$500 (CA pricing). A decent boost gauge and a turbo timer should be around $50 and $55 respectively off E-Bay also. An MBC should be around $40, and a 16G with install kit around $550? You can milk out a lot from your car with $1500. Just make sure you clamp down on a decent deal when you see one. Consistant browsing is key to finding amazing deals. I recently picked up a BRAND NEW GReddy Profec B Spec II EBC with the wireless button for $220 from a local community website. You get some amazing deals, always have your eyes peeled.

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

Here's my suggestion, a bit cheaper still than Sphyder's. For the filter, the FIPK is very expensive ($120). You can get one that works just the same but with slightly less surface area for $20-$60. Just type in "4.5 filter" in ebay or google 4.5 inch filter.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EVO8-...31857618QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bomz-...31848011QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ECLIP...32951797QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...33239981QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-5-I...32916987QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...32749748QQrdZ1
http://www.autoanything.com/products...ce_air_filters

Then get an electric exhaust cutout (<$200). http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/ Also try Summitracing and google.
It's cheaper than any turbo-back, has the least amount of restiction of any exhaust, wont get you harassed by the cops for being loud (when it's closed), and allows you to control sound, gas mieage, power, emissions (no problem passing), and is very "sleeper."

Then get a manual boost controller (you can make one yourself for $12), boost gauge, 16g turbo like Sphyder said or if you're really on a budget a 14b off the 1st gen. If you need an intercooler get the generic ebay one for under $200 total. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Huge-...32750703QQrdZ1
And either get this piping kit for $100: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-I...32745864QQrdZ1
Or get some mandrel bent pipes off Summit or many other places for cheap.

Then you may need some fuel mods like fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and injectors. And Possibly a clutch and a way to tune it (S-AFC+logger or DSMlink).

So thats about $910 total:
filter-$20-60
exhaust-$200
bmc-$40
boost gauge-$50
turbo-$200-600
ic+pipes-$300
fuel pump-$100

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

Heres what I would (and will) do with my first ~$1500 (eBay is your friend, slightly used is my friend, do you want him to be yours?):
First...
K&N air filter: $40
Homedepot or eBay intake: $20
Full 3" exhaust: $200-$500 and up
JoeP MBC: $40
boost guage: $50
Then...
DSM link: If you are really lucky <$500, if not $500-$550
After that...
GM MAF and translator: $200-$250
eBay FMIC core: $120-$180
IC pipes and couplers: $100-$150
Type S or SSQV: $100-$150
Injectors: $200? (not sure, never looked for them)
Fuel pump: $80-$100
Then you are ready for a bigger turbo, cams, all the really fun stuff. If you are a smart shopper, $1500 can get you pretty deep into that list. As I found out from Mikes exhaust, its not exactly hard. His has one bend after it gets under the engine. Making that will save you a shit load of money.

No I haven't tried it yet but that's what I'm thinking about going with. Can't quite decide yet though. My brother is getting the Quick Time one. Watch the vids on that site and others, they're really cool.

I forgot to add that you'll need a downpipe with that cutout. Just get a Megan or whatever for $100. I've got the Megan one before it was redesigned to actually fit correctly so I'm thinking of just cutting the end off and sticking the cutout in between it and my stock exhaust. I was even thinking of having a pipe coming off the cutout that would exit under the sideskirts, but that might be too much.

Oh, I also didn't list a bov. The ones that Thor06 listed are good or there's also the 1g bov ($30-40 used-- my 1g bov + upper intercooler pipe was $60 total) or the ebay knockoff BOVs (~$60) if you're really strapped for cash.

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

Used parts are your friends. Pick up some used parts that you know can't really get fucked up, eg. exhaust, piping, probably a BOV. If you shop around you can get some used turboback exhaust very cheap which will save you a HUGE amount of money. Also used LICP and UICP can save some money. I say go for a 1g BOV, no need to get a fancy one with a "nice" sound and there is ZERO reason to get a GM MAF right now. The 2g MAF is better than the 1g and should flow enough air for anything up to 400 HP. The GM maf is for venting, which is not nessecary at all, and attracts much more attention from the added noise levels. Get FIPK, UICP, LICP and a 1g bov and your car will be louder than you can imagine at the moment. As for a turbo, if you can find a good cond. 14b off a friend, its not a difficult install and flows a fair amount more than the t-25, I would always bring a buddy who knows about turbos with you to check out a used one for shaft play, any signs of leakage etc... if you do get a used 14b, see if you can get the 1g water pipes along with it, they will save you some time during the install.

If you don't get around to upgrading the turbo yet, the stock fuel system should be good for about 15-16 PSI on the t-25. Cams are nice but not nessecary for a small turbo upgrade at all, I wouldent bother with a 16g, the price you end up paying is not worth the gain...figure 35 whp if you get a damn good tune on the 16g over baseline with the addition of cams...better off to just save and get a frontmount, fuel system and a bigger turbo like a 57trim+, then slap the cams in there for mad top end. If you are used to the t-25, the 16g will be more than enough to rock your socks until you get a frontmount and fuel system upgrade. If you do plan on going bigger than a 16g eventually, the DSMlink is a great option, but remember that you need a laptop to tune it properly.

Avoid ssautochrome and xspower at all costs on ebay. I saw photos of a turbo that was GLUED together and fell apart. Remember, you get what you pay for, so if reputable companys cost 400+ for a turbo alone what do you think the build quality will be on a manifold, turbo, wastegate package from ssautochrome for $400 will be?

Re: $1500 to spend so tell me what to buy!

Yeah, that is my plan for 1g and a bigger turbo, I would agree a GM MAF isnt necessary, maybe not even for a 1g, but I'm going to get one anyway. Good call on the 1g BOV, I forgot about them. They are only good to 20-22psi (correct?) and I probably will be boosting higher than that. 35 hp for cams? Damn, thats more than I expected. A friends laptop works great for tuning as well .

Yeah, around there. But if you do the "gus mod" (if you do a search on here you can find a link to the page) or crush it, it will hold more.
