Question Rear Wiper Troubles!!

1991 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4.3L 4x4 4DR

My rear wiper has always worked just fine (even the washer!!!). Recently, the wiper will not operate when the switch is turned on. The washer still works though. I had noticed while the wiper did work, the switch would get HOT when it was in use. I mean it would get so hot that it hurt when you touched it. I don't know if this is common or the switch is junk. I would rather replace the switch than the motor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. With all of the sand and salt on the roads, it would be nice to see (I live in Maine)! Thanks!

Re: Rear Wiper Troubles!!

Either way you go , you have to take something apart to see if you have voltage to the motor . If it is delay type motor , it has the electronics(pulse) board mounted on the side of it . I just replaced my front motor . you need a volt meter or a test probe . If the switch was getting THAT hot you may have both bad now . Look at the how to post titled "wiping my rear" for some instructions. Rob

Re: Rear Wiper Troubles!!

Is there a known problem with the rear washer? I have an 05 Blazer and the rear washer will not spray and the dealer said it was crystals in there. I am assuming he means ice since it is winter so I was going to take it back in spring when the temp stays above freezing. The pump sounds like its working but it won't spray.Has anyone else had this problem?I removed the hose at the rear door and it is clear from there to the wiper nozzle.

My problems have been as such.

Rear motor tied up and had to disaasemble and polish and relube shaft.
rear hose came off in taigate.
switch is bad and have to press it real hard.

If you took hose off at rear and all is well then try taking it off at the pump.

Re: Rear Wiper Troubles!!

Tomorrow I am going to test the motor to see if it is getting power. If so, then I will lube the motor and see if that is the problem. If there is no power, then I will replace the switch. I am hoping that it is the switch.

No the dealer didn't mean ice what he means by crystals is when washer fluid sits it crystallizes and block injectors.

The pump is not the problem, the switch will activate the pump and fluid will spray on the window. If I push the wiper part of the switch, nothing happens.

Re: Rear Wiper Troubles!!

Tomorrow I will find out for sure when it all comes apart. I'll post the result once it becomes available.

But I checked the rear injector on the wiper arm and it is clear. Any other idea what it could be???
