Blown Gasket or Cracked Block??

I have a friend who has a 94 - not sure what year exactly - Grand Am with a 4 cylinder engine not DOHC but same block as a Quad four i believe if someone can confire pls do. Anyway there is coolant in cylinder #2 (from left to right) facing the front of the car looking toward the rear. thought it was a blown gasket but my auto shop teacher (college professor) says that the block is cracked i cant confirm i dont know enough yet to know but does anyone know if it is a cracked block is there any way to repair it, if it is small enough(the crack i mean)?and if not can u use the block from a Quad four DOHC to replace the one that is cracked or is there a better motor that i could get cheaply at a junkyard cheap as in under 500 bucks? thanks

I can not tell you for sure if it is a cracked block, but I do know that they had been known for having the blocks crack in the earlier modles.

Coolant in cylinder #2? Just like our 1994 Pontiac Grand Am 2.3L Quad 4 SOHC which has coolant in cylinder #2. I hope it's not cracked blocked in our engine. I'm in the process of tearing down the engine.
