Re: headunits

Forgive the chuckle; your screen name is Kenwood guy and you're looking at a pioneer deck?

The dusl deck looks too busy for me; I can do everything I need to while driving without looking at the radio.
I dunno where you live; but the Pioneer tuners kick @$$ if you're out of the city a lot.

I'd get #2 if it were me based on those choices.

Personally; I bought the Kenwood X789 and have NO regrets.

Good Luck.

Re: headunits

I'm a Panasonic Guy but, if I had to choose between those two I'd choose the Pioneer.
This is the one I would like when my stock CD Player gives up the ghost.

Re: headunits

Personally, I have had a head unit with no external slot (i.e. it had to be "opened" before the disc could be ejected/inserted) and I was not too thrilled. It REALLY sucks if you are driving and trying to change discs. I have had good experience with Pioneer, but WTF is Dual?

Re: headunits

Dual is some cheap ass brand. I played with them at Best But and wasn't impressed at all. Its like a modern Jensen. I say if it's between only those 2, definately get the Pioneer. I'd get a Alpine personally.

Re: headunits

I have the Pioneer DEH-P47DH unit in my '01 - special height that fits very nicely in the stock opening. It has an auxiliary input that I use to plug in a mp3 player into, so you can plug in an iPod or other player. Also has a cell phone mute input that I've never used. Also has remote cd changer capability.

Sounds great!

Re: headunits

Hi, I'm new here and this is my 1st chevy since '97. '04 silverado extended cab. I'm looking at upgrading the headunit with a kenwood. What all do you need to swap out and the best prices. I heard you have to install a chime kit thats around $100 , is thee a cheaper alternative? Thanx

Re: headunits

I'm personally an Alpine guy, but my second choice has to be the Pioneers. Go #2, without question. You're liable to have problems with that motorized face on the Dual in the future (and probably right when you lose your warranty!). Plus, the Alpine has a MUCH better display and I can guarantee you that your sound quality will be better with the Pioneer.

Re: headunits

i would go with the pioneer in a second over the pos dual. and for the other post from skeeter you can do a cheaper way. go to circuit city and buy a metra 802003 harness and use it and it should only be like 19 bucks and get metra 992003 dash kit and metra 40gm10 antenna adapter. should run about 65 bucks total.

Re: headunits

i have sold and dealt with
alpine = very good
pioneer = very good
jvc = has alot of problems with jammed cds and tuners burn out
sony = pretty good but have button and face problems
jensen = pos
panasonic = nice
dual = pos

this is my experience from all of these brands on head units. i would not touch a jvc myself becasue they have lots of issues.

Re: headunits

I have a Sony and i likeit. I'm getting the new one that lets you load 1GB of mp3's/wma files in the faceplate to play. No more mp3 cd's!!! http://www.crutchfield.com/S-UJJKsC1...00&I=158MEX1GP

The only reason I like Sony is we're the only Sony dealers around here
