I bought a 1500Carb'd engine for my 86 CIvic Wagon.
the number on the Rear of the Flywheel cover says: D1-5A-2 12225895 I never bothered to look at the number until I discovered the Intake manifold Gaskets wouldn't fit! |

Does it look like the engine you're replacing? Honda did start using D-series codes in place the 3rd Gen Civic EW-series engines in 1987. According to the info I have, the D15A2 is the EW1. Your Wagon should have the EW1, unless it's a Canadian spec car. Does your replacement engine have a steel or plastic valve cover? If it's plastic, it's the CRX HF engine. Are you sure you have the right gasket?

Yup, the Two engines look the Same. I got the Gaskets from a Canadian Concern. He said the Intake Gasket's were probably the only gaskets that wouldn't fit.
I took an EW-1 out! The two center cylinders were siezed. Water in the Cylinders. It's an emissions difference. This "Spaghetti Junction" Carburation is for the US only. I got this replacment from a Wrecking yard in Jersey (Roxbury) and the Salt and Rust Corrosion had nearly eaten through the Pan! I'd seen that on Boats that run in Salt Water, but this is the First I've seen it on dry land. This project is going forward an Inch at a time. I never heard it run before I bought it. I dont even know what kind of 'Other' problems I'm going to run into, If I ever get the Engine back into the Car. I had to fix the Passenger Door latch. Teenagers!!!! One pulling on the Handle, the other pushing on the lock lever. Bent a spring inside the latch. It's Riveted and It took a little piddeling to get inside the latch, but it fixed pretty easy. Sorry I didn't get back to you right away. My PC Crashed. |
