Rear Disk Brakes

I was looking around at the local dealership and noticed that the 2006 model 1500 series trucks are all equipped with rear drum brakes. The 2500 series all have rear discs. All series of Tahoe, Suburban, and Avalanche also all have rear disc brakes. What's up with that? Why only drums on the 1/2ton trucks and the rest of the truck line. You would figure they would have went with rear drums on all of their product line if there were issues with it. I'm sure that the rear discs on Tahoe and Avalanche are the same as previous rear discs on the trucks.

I noticed the same thing.....asked my buddy at the local GM shop and he did not know either. I think they had some problem with the rear disks in the rust-belt areas of the country but that does not explain why the 3/4 ton and other trucks still have rear disks.

Re: Rear Disk Brakes

I don't know for your truck, and, honestly, I don't remember for mine, either. But it is not some b.s. like from a bolt on part where u might feel it a little, there is a defiite difference. Since your truck has electronic throttle control (i.e. your tb is run by wire and not by a cable), there is a lot of room for improvement with yours. Give nelson performance a call 210-626-0278, and they will answer all of your questions, and they are not at all pushy sales people. Also, my tune has already paid for itself since I get an extra ~1.5 MPG since I got it.

Re: Rear Disk Brakes

its not just the 2006. the 2005 came out with drums as well. i really doubt they had any problems or they would have taken the discs off the avalanches, suburban, tahoes. IMO, GM is just being cheap with all their vehicles now. I bought the top of the line chevy half-ton crewcab LT, the only one in houston available with a sunroof and rear seat entertainment, and best of all in white. Some things i noticed it was missing, the rear discs, the light under the hood, no traction assist. theyre just trying to save money, the 2004s had that. Now the 2006s, the LT3 models with leather do not have the samelumbar support as the 2005 and below. the seats only inflate from the back and not from the sides anymore. The leather seats, only the top on the front two seats are leather, all the back part and the headrests are vinyl. On the back seat, only two small parts are leather, all the rest is vinyl, you can see the texture. Ont he extended cabs, the whole back seat is vinyl. Gm is just being cheap with their products, thats all. I don't regret buying my truck, i love it, but i wished it came with rear discs because its gonna look pretty gay with my 24's
