Re: Rim question

If you get ones made for the Neon, they will fit properly.
I hope you realize that 17" wheels on a Neon are for show and not go.
They will slow you down a lot b/c for every pound of rotating weight you add to the wheel/tire it is equivelant to 4 pounds of dead weight. Going from the 14" factory alloy to 17" wheels can add 20 lbs to each corner (4) and at a multiple of 4 for rotating weight, you have just added an equivelant of 320lbs, this will not only slow you down, it will put extra strain on your brakes. Usually you would use the lightest wheel/tire combination to get the job done, 17" wheels are over kill for any Neon, even the SRT-4. The SRT-4 ACR (Auto Club Racer) model with the improved racing suspension comes with 16" wheels rather than the 17" 's that come on the standard SRT-4.

Here are some common tire size replacements...
195/60-14
205/60-14
195/55-15
205/50-15
215/50-15
205/45-16
215/45-16
205/40-17
215/35-18

You can run 16" tires, but try and keep the offset between 38-40mm. I think the best rim size and tire combo is 15x7" wheels with 205/50-15" tires.

Re: Rim question

I agree with DAS2123 on the 15" wheel and tire size, 6.5" wide wheels would be acceptable. I usually only use OEM (long list of reasons, if you ask I will tell). I would look for a set of 15" alloy from a newer Neon or 4-door Stratus (not the 2-door, different pattern, Mitsubishi crap car IMO).
On my '98 R/T I used the factory R/T 14" Rims with 205/60 -14 Tires.

Go with the 205-40-17's. That will keep your speedometer close to where it should be.

I like the way they look, but yes it will hurt your acceleration. Depends on if you want to sacrifice looks for performance. A 17" tire won't grip any better than a 16", but it depends on the tire. Like I said before a 15x7 inch rim is a great rim for the neon for handling. The above 17" combo would look nice, could give you better gas milage, but will affect performance. Will it be that noticable? Probably not unless you get some gawd awful heavy chrome rims.

Re: Rim question

neon rt, 17s arnt overkill on the srt. because of the sidewall height on the srt, an 18 actually handles better. a 50series tire is huge. there is a ton of flex to that, my 40 series is significantly better with the 18s

No! Going with anything higher than 40mm means that you are making the track of the car narrower by moving the tires further inboard.

Re: Rim question

I would think that if 18's were better, the SRT-4 ACR would have came with them instead of 16's. In the reviews that I have seen, the ACR handled way better then the standard SRT-4. Most of it I would think was suspension upgrade, but why the 16's unless they worked better. It would have been easier to use the 17's that already came with the SRT-4 if they got the results they wanted.
