Post Inspection Software For Dummies

Hello,

I dont know if any exists but am looking to buy something (Hardware / software) to perform basic inspections of my own. I've just bought a 530i (2001) and would like to keep it in good shape by checking it over myself regurarly.

I dont really know much about cars / or mechanics, hence I spend so much time on this forum reading everyone's postings.

I did a quick search and found some packages which allow you to connect your laptop to the engine via some sort of cable, this to me sounds ideal.

Any recomendations would be greatly apreciated!

Thanks for you help.

Silver and its my first BMW, I dont think I'll ever buy from any other manufacturer. Drives fantastic, I still cant get over how much power is behind it. Its also one of the smothest cars i've driven...
