Post Abs+ets+svs

Hello everyone,

I have been a member of AF for quite awhile now and really like it here. I believe this is my first post.

I was wondering if anyone out there would be able to help me solve a problem that has been plaguing this car for the last 3-4 years: Near the end of winter, when the weather drops, my ETS/OFF, ABS and SVS indicator lamps all come up while driving.

I drive a 2001 2.4L Sunfire GT with 65000 km on it. The only things not stock are the short-ram air intake, front lights and the mufflers.

Every year, these warnings never fail to shine their irritating amber glow in my face and I'm sick of it

Here's what's been done so far to try and eliminate the problem:

*Spring 2004: brought the car to the GM dealership the day after warning lights first came on for no apparent reason. A new "wiring harness" was put in because the old one was corroded, and the lights went away

*Summer '04: Lights come on again after driving through a huge puddle in heavy rain - lights go away after wet system dries.

*Winter 05: ABS becomes really touchy, until I get the ETS OFF/ABS/SVS again. I bring the car to Midas where I always go and they clear the error with a computer; The next day the lights come on again. The ABS "wiring harness" is (again) suspected but checks out good after an inspection.

So the mechanic reseats that, disconnects/reconnects the battery cables and verifies the fuses, but the warning lamps return after about 5 minutes; At this point, I am told that the next step is to install some new "traction control sensors" Three days later, while pondering yet another costly repair, no more warning lights! That is, until now

I post in the hopes that someone somewhere has had the same problem taken care of before, or has the knowledge to point me in the right direction.

Any ideas or suggestions regarding this would be appreciated - Matt

ps: sorry for the long post btw "- thank you copy/paste

Re: Abs+ets+svs

Hi

I just bought a 97 Sunfire 2 weeks ago and yesterday I had the same problem - my ETS and ABS lights came on and stayed on til I stopped the car and the same today. (Yes, it was wet out) You said you replaced a wheel speed sensor and though yours was covered by warranty I was wondering approx. how much it was. Just spent huge dollars trying to fix an intermittent problem on my last car so depending on the price, may just drive it with the lights on seeing the car and brakes still seem to be working fine.

Thanks alot
