Angry What the Hell!!!

Ok so my wife and I are sittin in her 04 Taurus the other day and I start feeling water drippin on my foot.At first I thought it was a heater core or somethin but when I smelled it it was just water. It was raining pretty steadily so I just assumed that I left the window down a little.Nope.So I climbed in the floorboard and the water is coming from under the passenger side dash.I'm wondering if I should just take it to the dealership or just say screw it and try to fix it myself.I have no idea of the past history of this car or nothing it could have been crushed for all I know.It is a nice car but my god for it to be leaking now whats it gonna be like in a year or two.

Re: What the Hell!!!

The water leak is probably the drain tub that is clogged that lets the condensation from your Air-Condition system drain out under the car.

Re: What the Hell!!!

Do a search for water leak on the forum. Not too long ago someone else posted about a similar leak. If I recall correctly, they found a seam at the base of the windshield, I think in the area of the cabin air filter, that was trapping water and causing the leak. They dried the area out really well and applied silicone to the seam and the leak had not reappeared.

Re: What the Hell!!!

Same thing happened to me on my 2004 Taurus SE. I was kinda pissed about it too cause I thought it was a water leak.

I brought it to my local dealership, luckily the car was still under warranty and they said the air conditioner drain tube was actually draining inside the car instead of outside. They rerouted the drain and took the carpet out to wash it and replaced the underpad to let the car dry to avoid having mold grow because of all the water that had made its way to the back of the car, cause my driveway slopes down. There was actually a puddle on the floor in the back.

It might be good to check this before it gets too bad, you dont want to have a moldy carpet in your Taurus.

Re: What the Hell!!!

Call or stop by your local dealer. There is a TSB about the pass side cowl that covers the cabin air filter. The drain that fishcounter is talking about isn't actually reroutable because it's built into the evap housing, so they must have worked something out for him. I'd check on both though. Matt.

Re: What the Hell!!!

Just like every one else. My heater blower quit working on all modes except high. Then within a couple days high went out. I tested it and found the resistor to be bad, but when I by-passed it, the blower motor was also bad. That's when I knew there was more to the story than what I was seeing. I noticed that the resistor had rust on it. This was not good, when I opened the fan motor casing I found water in it. This is not supposed to happen. The seal is faulty (defective) .

I contacted a good friend and found out that there is a bulletin out on this at Food dealerships so ford is aware of this problem, but not obligated to tell customers. So if you still have a warranty it's covered only if you contact Ford. If you do not have a warranty no longer than you are responsible to pay the bill. They have not put out a recall because not enough people have complained. Most take it in to service and ford repairs and charges them, usually without telling them about the defective seal. I am currently fighting with the ford dealership and have called and made complaints. My vehicle is not fixed at the moment, but I am determined.

Please contact ford and complain they knew about this defective seal, but yet did not have the common courtesy to inform their customers and have the problem fixed before it cost approximately $400-$500 for those without warranty instead of saving the $300-$400 .

Please Post your complaints: www.ford.com

Something needs to be done about ripping off customers, and making them pay the price for another's knowing mistake.

Re: What the Hell!!!

I had the cowl leak on my 96 LX. Found out about the filter cover leak on this forum. Went to dealer. Service Manager said they would have to look at it and it would probably cost $200 - $300. I brought it home and used duct tape to keep water from coming in around the filter cover. No more leak. And no more respect for Ford Dealers service departments.

Re: What the Hell!!!

FYI for all you disgruntled FORD owners, RECALLS are usually only issued if the problem poses a safety risk, and this goes for any manufacturer. If it is something like a moulding falling off or water in your dash they issue a TSB. I posted earlier about the cowl TSB, but apparently nobody decided to read that. Plus, you can complain all you want about Ford dealers and their service depts, but they can only do so much. If it's a recall you get it free, if it's a TSB you pay. They can't give parts and labor away. You could have chosen to buy the parts and replace them yourself too. As for Ford itself, that may be a different story, but remember the dealership is a seperate entity and they don't really have the control that some of you think that they have. Later. M
