Exclamation Clunking sound

Co-worker has a 97 Cirrus that is making a cluncking sound on rough roads/bumps. The shocks are good. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Clunking sound

Most likely it's the stabilizer link that connects the sway bar to the lower control arm. It's about 36 bucks from parts stores and 116 bucks from the dealer. I've replaced several of them , usually on the stratus' and recently on a 99 cirrus.

I had the same problem. A common problem for this car is the bushings. They wear out rather quickly and have to be replaced. Check the tie rods at the same time as often they will get worn and weak from the bushings not supporting the wheels properly.

My 99 clunks going over any curbs and such. It is the lower tie rods. My shop quotes about $500 for all to replace them. Includes a wheel alignment.
