painting wheels

has anyone ever painted their stock wheels, or though of it. I have the base model dull steel looking chevy wheels and they are an ugly tone. i want to paint them... maybe even a mettalic green to match my truck. or just a shiny black. anyone no of the proper way of doing this? is it a bad idea? i dont have money for a new set of wheels and tires rite now.

Re: painting wheels

i had a friend that painted some wheels on his car one time. he took the tires off the wheels and sanded them down smooth and bought some paint that can withstand heat and painted them and clear coated them and they looked good. he had them on the car for over a year before he sold the car and they still looked good when he sold it.

Re: painting wheels

When I still drove my '01 Blazer, I had the stock wheels powder-coated a mirror black and they turned out great. They really changed the over-all look of the vehicle and I've had lots of compliments on em. Good luck with however ya decide to get em done. Oh yea, Ill try to get some pics of em when I get the chance.

Take a long hard look at your rims and you will see that the chrom part is merely a stick-on overlay. Look around the edges and you can see two pieces. You also might pull the center cap off of one of them, you can easily see there. Anyway, if you decide to paint them, you'll need to pull that overlay off first.

I personally would leave your rims alone. I like the chrome ones.
