Blinking Temperature Display

I have a 94 LeSabre Limited with the electronic climate control system. Recently, it has started have problems with the temperature display blinking, whether the system is on or off. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

Also, does anyone know where the control module for the vents is at? System has been stuck in defog mode and I can't seem to get out of it.

Does it go to heat mode at all when you push the button for that? It may be the vacuum tubes at the programmer sucking shut the connector nipples since they soften with age. That can be bypassed by checking which color inside the programmer goes to which color outside and connecting the two with 1/8 inch gas line pieces about 1 inch long. I did it. Links are out there if I can find them again. I think it's at imcool.com as in air conditioning/radiator shop supplier.

There is a diagnostic that I believe works for 94 and lower.

Diagnostic mode:
Auto Climate Control Diagnostics
This procedure will work on 1992 and 1994 models with ATC, and may possibly also work on 1988-1991 models.

The diagnostic mode also contains a data list mode and an override mode.

Be careful not to select modes 01 or 02, as these are different modes, and may cause problems.

If you suspect you are in the wrong mode, press OFF repeatedly until you exit to normal mode. If the temperature display flashes for 2 minutes when the ignition is turned to RUN, a trouble code is set.

1. Turn ignition to RUN. Press OFF and WARM (temperature up) buttons simultaneously.

2. Watch the segment test, then the trouble codes will be displayed.

3. Code Key:

00 - No codes

10 or 110 - Ambient Temp Sensor circuit open or shorted.

13 or 113 - In-Vehicle Temp Sensor circuit open or shorted.

15 or 115 - LH Solar Sensor circuit open or shorted.

35 or 135 - Data Line failure - HVAC Control Assembly

38 or 138 - Data Line failure - PCM

40 or 140 - Driver Air Mix Motor circuit open or shorted, or not calibrated

48 or 148 - Long Term Freon Loss

52 or 152 - Keep Alive Memory lost; sets with battery disconnected

66 or 166 - Low Freon

A number 1 prefix indicates a history trouble code

4. Press OFF twice once codes are displayed to end diagnostic mode, OR to clear trouble codes, press FAN DOWN three times (make sure 03 is displayed).

Once 03 is displayed, press FAN UP to clear trouble codes. Then repeatedly press OFF to end diagnostic mode.

No, pressing the HEAT button does nothing. Warm air (or cold as is necessary) comes out of the defrost vents and lower vents, mixed, as in defog mode. Can't get anything to the panel vents, or singly to either the defrost or floor vents.

Just an update.

The diagnostics posted above DO NOT work on the 94 LeSabre.

You will need a scanner to check the codes on the 94 ACC. You can still reset the codes using the old battery ground cable disconnect trick, after you fix the problem.
The blinking of the control panel is telling you that is setting a code. Your code is more than likely for the actuator that is located on the passenger side behind the glove box. You can buy them at Advanced Auto Parts for about 36 bucks. It looks like this;

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, this vehicle is one of those with the OBD "1.5" system, OBD II connector but is still an OBD I system. Finding a garage with a scanner, other than the local GM dealer, is a real pain. Will try this actuator.

I also have this problem on my 94 and have done the following; Lower the glove box all the way down to check the actuator motor. You can here it if it is running when you turn on the system. Also you can dissconnect the lever going to it and move it manually to try to redirect airflow.
My problem seems to be with the dual zone crap because I get cool air on the drivers side and hot air on the pass side of the car. Does anyone know what controls the dual zone system?
