Question 1993 tilt steering broken

My steering wheel goes freely from top position to bottom position. It won't lock in in any position. I wouldn't care, except it makes for some very weird driving around curves. It also gets tiring holding the wheel in a drivable position.

Obviously, there is some sort of pawl failure. Does anyone have experience with this, and how difficult is it to fix?

dpends on what it broke. Might have to replace something simple or the entire collum. if it is just a beater then you can bolt it were you want it

Thumbs up Re: 1993 tilt steering broken

Well, I pulled the wheel off and removed the tilt/switches housing.
I found the problem right away! The pin that the tilt mechanism engages had backed all the way out. I pushed it back in and it works like new!
Should be good for another 151,000 miles.
