Unhappy Frustrated with my 2000 Cougar-Help!

Hi everyone,
I have a 2000 Cougar with 71,000 miles on it. Pretty much from day 1 it has had problems. Flywheel and fuel pump replaced at 5,000 miles, moonroof went bad ($1200!!!!), alternator this past summer, my driver door relay switch went 2x on it, and other problems too much to list....
A few days ago, my engine light went on, well I haven't been able to get it into get checked yet (my husband's 2002 explorer is getting serviced) and today I got into the car and the 2 computer displays that show the mileage and the time are not working-there are a couple of random lines displayed but thats it! Has anyone had this problem? Around how much to get it fixed. I worry since it is electrical and I have put sooooo much money into this car.

$1200 for a new moonroof! Please dont tell me it was just the moonroof gear that broke?

Re: Frustrated with my 2000 Cougar-Help!

The left side of the moonroof track wasn't working. It was stuck open! I took it to a Mercury dealership and they couldn't even get it to close so I drove around with a plastic bag over it for a month! I got 2 quotes and I got it for around $1150 at a local shop vs. the dealership. Both places said the whole thing had to be replaced. It was quite a bite-if it would have been down, I would have left it but can't leave it open forever.

Re: Frustrated with my 2000 Cougar-Help!

That sucks. my wifescougar (knock on wood) hasnt had a singleproblem and its got 71 k on it and its a 2000. then again, she doent have a moonroof. Sometimes its about how well you take care of the car and then sometimes you just get a lemon from the factory. my theory is ford hired crackheads to assemble those things.

Angry Re: Frustrated with my 2000 Cougar-Help!

You know,I read that and it is really frustrating that Mercury didn't recall or do something with the moonroof problem, it is obviously not a isolated incident. When I went to the dealership they really offered no help and supposedly tried to close it for me and couldn't but still charged me $80. I had to laugh because the original cost of the sunroof on the sticker was $800 and I paid $1150 to replace it-go figure! Leave a real bad taste in one's mouth!
Between this car and my husband's Explorer, it has taught me to buy the extended warranty! We bought it on my husband's and it has been at the dealership now for 2 weeks-thank god we bought it!
I live in Detroit and I feel it is very important to buy American so I will continue to buy American to keep jobs in our area but it gets very frustrating to hear and read remarks and see all the problems that I have with my Cougar are the same as everyone else and the Manufacturer is doing NOTHING to help!
